== Insignia and wear ==

The medals bore SS runes above a stylized palm wreath, with the same emblem at the centre of the crosses. All classes used cornflower-blue ribbons, with a silver emblem on the 2nd Class ribbon and a gold emblem on the 1st Class ribbon. Recipients wore only their highest class but kept earlier insignia. Every class received remained in the official roll.<ref name="service"/>
