SS Long Service Award
The SS Long Service Award recognized service in the SS formations of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.[1] Its official names were SS-Dienstauszeichnung der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen in German and Condecoración por Servicio en las SS de Tanoa in Spanish.[2] Eef Paap received the award.[3]
Qualifying service
[edit | edit source]Service counted from formal entry into the Tanoan Allgemeine SS or Waffen SS. Earlier German or Argentine military service did not count, nor did pre-state Argentine Einsatz membership. The award had four classes based on completed service.[1]
| Class | Qualifying service | Insignia | Approval[1] |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4th Class | 4 years | Blackened circular medal | Chancellery |
| 3rd Class | 8 years | Bronze circular medal | Chancellery |
| 2nd Class | 12 years | Silver cross | Chancellery |
| 1st Class | 25 years | Gold cross | Personal approval by the Führer after recommendation or endorsement by the Reichsführer-SS |
Insignia and wear
[edit | edit source]The medals bore SS runes above a stylized palm wreath, with the same emblem at the centre of the crosses. All classes used cornflower-blue ribbons, with a silver emblem on the 2nd Class ribbon and a gold emblem on the 1st Class ribbon. Recipients wore only their highest class but kept earlier insignia. Every class received remained in the official roll.[1]
