SS-Hauptscharführer was a non-commissioned SS rank of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It stood directly below SS-Sturmscharführer and above SS-Oberscharführer in the Allgemeine SS hierarchy.[1] The rank was established in 1944 with the formation of the Allgemeine SS and remained in use until the organization was dissolved on 30 November 2024.[2][3]
The title translates as "head squad leader". The rank corresponded to the German Army rank Oberfeldwebel and was approximately equivalent to Master Sergeant in English-language military comparisons.
The archived Allgemeine SS rank records include Esquel Iglesias, Andres Salvagni, Marcos Ignacio Maiz, Mariano Echeverría, Ricardo Barrionuevo, Luis Gallardo and Victor Edgardo Herrera Andia among the recorded holders of SS-Hauptscharführer. Martinez Alberto Fritz also held the rank by 2018 before later becoming SS-Untersturmführer.
The rank ceased to be used on 30 November 2024 when the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen collapsed and the Allgemeine SS was dissolved.[3]
