Jim Michael Paap (born 8 June 1973), also known as Ginger teeth, Jimmy, and Teethsniffer, is a member of the Paap family from Birmingham, England. He is the brother of Edwin Paap and Ben Paap. His son is Derek Paap, and he works as a hotdog seller in Birmingham.[1][2]
Early life
[edit | edit source]Jim Michael Paap was born in Birmingham, United Kingdom, on 8 June 1973. He grew up as a member of the Paap family with his brothers Edwin and Ben Paap.[1]
Career
[edit | edit source]Paap works as a hotdog seller in Birmingham. During a queue dispute outside his stand in 2007, two customers began arguing with each other. Paap repeatedly addressed both customers as "mate" and refused to serve either of them until they stopped arguing. People who knew Paap later repeated the story, and his frequent use of the word became a recognised feature of his speech.
Paap began shaving his head after a customer commented on his ginger hair. He returned to work the following day with his head fully shaved and continued to shave it afterward.
His dislike of red paint began during a repainting job near his hotdog stand. While Paap was working, paint from a nearby wall splashed onto the sign of his stall. He removed the sign and refused to reopen the stand until the wall had been repainted in another colour.
Paap began avoiding buses after one clipped the side of his hotdog cart while turning near a pavement. The cart was not destroyed, but the impact knocked several trays of sausages onto the ground. Afterward, he stopped setting up his stand near bus stops.
Personal life
[edit | edit source]Paap is single and lives in Birmingham. He is bisexual and has one son, Derek Paap.[2]
Paap dislikes white teeth because of his relationship with his brother Edwin. Edwin's teeth were badly decayed, and Paap said that he preferred them in that condition because clean teeth appeared unnatural to him. At family gatherings, he sometimes leaned towards Edwin while they were speaking and deliberately smelled his breath. Paap described the rotten smell as comforting. He later began smelling Edwin's teeth whenever they met as a way of appreciating their deterioration.
His dislike of clean socks began after Ben Paap gave him a pack of new white socks as a birthday gift. Paap threw the socks behind a radiator and said that they made him look like a hospital patient. He continued wearing older socks afterward.
Paap is also known for licking dirty walls. The habit was first recorded after he lost a bet outside a pub in Birmingham and licked a brick wall behind the building. He later repeated the act without being challenged, usually when attempting to make people leave him alone.
