Humphrey van Hetten (born 4 June 1861) is a Surinamese member of the Van Hetten family. He is the father of Imro van Hetten and belongs to the Pre-Vader Era generation of the family. Van Hetten joined the army in Suriname in 1882. He later moved to Germany, where he joined the Luftwaffe in Nazi Germany in 1935. After the Second World War, he returned to Suriname and lived there on his military pension.

Early life

Humphrey van Hetten was born in Paramaribo, Suriname. He grew up in Suriname before later moving to Europe.

Military career

Van Hetten joined the army in Suriname in 1882, when he was 21 years old. His service in Suriname gave him military experience before his later move to Germany.

Van Hetten moved to Germany and joined the Luftwaffe in 1935, during the early years of Nazi Germany's open military expansion. He served in German military aviation during the period before and during the Second World War.

After the war ended in 1945, Van Hetten moved back to Suriname. He lived there during his pension years and remained part of the older generation of the Van Hetten family.

Personal life

Van Hetten is Christian. His known child is Imro van Hetten. After returning from Europe, he settled again in Suriname.
