Yelena Zaretskaya (born 12 September 1981) is a Russian furniture factory worker who rescued her daughter, Milena Zaretskaya, from a Porno Bucharest property in northern Romania on 17 February 2024. During the rescue, she shot Marku Ionuț in the leg and escaped with Milena after Jibbut Snagov deliberately allowed them to leave. Zaretskaya later returned to Romania with her daughter and gave testimony to the Bucharest Tribunal on 22 May 2025.[1][2]

Early life

Zaretskaya was born in Voronezh, Russia, on 12 September 1981. Her father taught her to shoot rifles while she was growing up. She later had a daughter, Milena Zaretskaya, in Russia.

In 2008, Zaretskaya separated from Milena's father and moved with her daughter to Suceava, Romania. She began working at a furniture factory in the city and remained employed there in 2024.

Porno Bucharest incident

On 13 February 2024, the 17-year-old Milena was abducted while she was out with friends. Her friends went to Zaretskaya and described the van used in the abduction. Zaretskaya reported the disappearance to Romanian police, but the report produced no action against the abductors. The police already knew that Porno Bucharest was responsible and did not move against the organization.[3]

Zaretskaya spent the following days searching for the van herself. On 17 February, she saw a vehicle matching the description at a gas station. A newly recruited Porno Bucharest member was alone with it. Zaretskaya entered the passenger side and threatened him with a pistol until he disclosed where Milena was being held. She then made him drive her to the perimeter of a Porno Bucharest property in northern Romania. After reaching the site, she allowed him to leave.

Zaretskaya approached the property carrying the pistol and a Mosin–Nagant rifle. She entered the room where Marku Ionuț was holding Milena and aimed the rifle at him. Marku attempted to deter her by claiming that members of his organization would pursue her if she killed him. Unable to act while Zaretskaya had the rifle trained on him, he released Milena. Once her daughter had reached her, Zaretskaya shot Marku in the leg.[1]

Zaretskaya and Milena then left the property. Outside, they encountered Jibbut Snagov, who initially had his sidearm pointed toward Zaretskaya. After seeing that she was leaving with Milena, he lowered and holstered the weapon, said nothing and nodded for them to continue. Zaretskaya and her daughter left without being stopped.[2]

After the rescue, the two left Romania and returned to Russia. They settled in Ferapontovo, Vologda Oblast, because Zaretskaya considered the small village safer while Porno Bucharest and the Bucharest Butchers remained active.

Bucharest Tribunal

After the collapse of the Bucharest Butchers and the opening of the Bucharest Tribunal in May 2025, Zaretskaya followed the publication of information about people connected to the organization. She recognized Jibbut Snagov from photographs identifying personnel whose actions were being documented after the collapse.

On 22 May 2025, Zaretskaya and Milena returned to Bucharest and gave testimony in person. Zaretskaya described Milena's abduction, her unsuccessful police report and the rescue on 17 February 2024. She also identified Snagov as the armed man who had encountered them while they were leaving the property. Zaretskaya stated that he had deliberately lowered his weapon and allowed them to escape, describing his action as having "let them live".[4][2]

Milena separately gave her account of the abduction and detention and confirmed the encounter with Snagov. After their testimony, Zaretskaya and her daughter returned to Ferapontovo, where they continued to live.
