The Wehrmacht was the principal conventional ground force of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen, established by Jan Paap on 10 December 1944. It served as the regime's regular army and operated under the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. The Wehrmacht took part in territorial occupations and military campaigns, with much of its later activity concentrated in Argentina.[1]

The army expanded through the absorption of Argentine military formations following the Tanoan occupation of Patagonia in 1953 and the annexation of Argentina in 1965. Ten Wehrmacht divisions also participated in the Tanoan Conquest of the Falklands between 2014 and 2017. The Wehrmacht ceased to exist following the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen on 30 November 2024.[2]

History

[edit | edit source]

The Wehrmacht was formed on 10 December 1944, during the first months of Jan Paap's rule over Tanoa. Its initial operations concentrated on consolidating control over territory occupied by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. The army maintained positions in the southern parts of the island and supported the regime's expansion into territories that remained outside its control.

During the late 1940s, the Wehrmacht became a permanent military force. Its formations were used to occupy territory and maintain garrisons. Following the establishment of the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen in 1950, the army came under the military division of the central command, which coordinated planning and operations.[3]

The Wehrmacht expanded into Argentina following the Tanoan takeover of Patagonia in 1953. Tanoan forces occupied Argentine military installations at Comodoro Rivadavia, Sarmiento and Río Gallegos. The Argentine Army formations stationed at these installations ceased receiving independent orders from their former command. Their weapons and military records were taken into Tanoan custody, and the ground units were reorganized under the Wehrmacht. Personnel selected for SS service were transferred to the Waffen SS or Allgemeine SS.[4]

A further expansion occurred in 1965 when the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen annexed Argentina. Tanoan forces occupied the Argentine Army headquarters in Buenos Aires and the garrison at Campo de Mayo. The Argentine Army was dissolved, with its conventional ground formations incorporated into the Wehrmacht. Its former headquarters became subordinate offices of the Tanoan military command. The Wehrmacht also received Argentine military equipment and personnel records during the transfer.[5]

Between 2014 and 2017, Wehrmacht formations fought in the Tanoan Conquest of the Falklands, also known as the Second Falkland War. The invasion began with an assault by Allgemeine SS and Waffen SS divisions, supported by naval artillery from the Kriegsmarine. Once the first wave had secured landing areas, ten Wehrmacht divisions landed alongside two additional SS divisions.

Tanoan forces occupied the western portion of the Falkland Islands. British attempts to recover the occupied territory encountered entrenched Tanoan positions, and fighting continued until a ceasefire was agreed on 8 April 2017. The agreement left western Falkland territory under Tanoan administration.[2]

The Wehrmacht remained a branch of the Tanoan armed forces until November 2024. During the final collapse of the regime, fighting in Georgetown disrupted central military command. The remaining Tanoan command surrendered on 30 November 2024, ending the Wehrmacht's existence as an organized army.[6]

Organization

[edit | edit source]

The Wehrmacht operated within the conventional armed forces of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. The military division of the Oberkommando coordinated its operations through central command offices. These offices handled military planning, operational orders and the allocation of supplies.[3]

Its formations included the Panzer Leer. Mountain troops were organized under the names Gebirgstruppe and Aufklarüngsgebirgstruppe. These formations appeared under the Wehrmacht in the departmental organization of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.[7]

The Wehrmacht maintained its own army formations within the conventional military command. The Waffen SS operated under a separate command hierarchy and developed into the regime's main expeditionary combat force, while the Wehrmacht retained the regular army's ground formations.[8]
