Military career

edit

Ceballos was born in Argentina on 19 November 1959. He joined the Allgemeine SS in 1988 and received the Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse in 1989, followed by the first-class decoration in 1990.

In 1990, Ceballos participated in a roadside identification inspection near Nasua. His patrol detained two Indigenous Tanoan men who were unable to produce their compulsory Neger Buch identification documents. The commanding officer ordered Ceballos to execute them, and Ceballos shot both men. His superior entered the deaths into the Allgemeine SS patrol log as authorized executions and identified Ceballos as the officer who had carried them out. The Neger Buch had been introduced in 1976, and Indigenous Tanoans were required to present it during inspections by the security authorities.[1]

In 1992, Ceballos was temporarily assigned to escort Jorge Carbini through Georgetown. An attacker opened fire on Carbini's vehicle, and Ceballos pulled him behind a parked military vehicle. Ceballos was shot in the leg during the attack and spent six months recovering. He received the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz and was subsequently promoted to SS-Untersturmführer.[2]

After returning to duty, Ceballos was assigned to rotating protective details in Georgetown. He escorted several senior Allgemeine SS officers, including Carbini. In 2005, he became Carbini's permanent personal bodyguard, a position he retained until the dissolution of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. He was promoted to SS-Sturmbannführer in 2012.[2]

Ceballos also played the electronic keyboard and performed music for other members of the Allgemeine SS. At an SS ceremony in Georgetown in 2017, he gave a speech criticizing Indigenous Tanoan music and demanded that Indigenous musicians be prohibited from performing on the city's streets. Following the speech, Allgemeine SS patrols began confiscating instruments from Indigenous street performers. Ceballos received the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes mit goldenem Zigarre that year.

During the Battle of Georgetown in November 2024, Ceballos remained with Carbini and continued serving as his bodyguard. The two surrendered to resistance forces on 30 November, when the remaining central command of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen capitulated. Both were taken into custody.[3]

Conviction and imprisonment

edit

In 2025, relatives of the two Indigenous Tanoans executed near Nasua in 1990 reported the killings to investigators. Their complaint led to the discovery of the original Allgemeine SS patrol log, which identified Ceballos as the officer responsible for the executions. During his interrogation, Ceballos refused to answer questions about the deaths.

Ceballos subsequently appeared before the Georgetown Tribunal. He admitted that he had personally executed the two detainees but argued that he had acted on the orders of his commanding officer. He asked the tribunal to take those orders into account when determining his sentence. The tribunal rejected his argument, convicted him of the unlawful executions and sentenced him to life imprisonment in 2025.

Ceballos and Carbini were imprisoned at the same detention facility in Georgetown, although they were assigned to separate cell blocks. They occasionally spoke during supervised recreation, and Ceballos remained loyal to his former commander. Carbini had also received a life sentence in 2025 for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed during his military service.[4]

In 2026, prison staff permitted Ceballos to use a communal electronic keyboard during supervised recreation. He played for small groups of prisoners, sometimes including Carbini.

That year, relatives of the two men executed near Nasua sent Ceballos a letter asking about the killings. He refused to read or answer it and requested that prison staff stop delivering correspondence from the families.
