The Patagonian Farmer Protest took place in Patagonia, Argentina, from 15 March to 5 December 2001. Farmers protested against agricultural restrictions and economic pressure imposed by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. The Ordnungspolizei and Allgemeine SS suppressed the demonstrations and arrested protesters.[1]
Background
[edit | edit source]The Tanoa Einsatzgruppen established political control over Patagonia in 1953 and formally annexed Argentina in 1965. Tanoan authorities regulated agricultural production and controlled the region's resources. Farmers opposed these policies, which they considered exploitative, and demanded changes to the restrictions placed on their work.[2]
Protest
[edit | edit source]Farmers began demonstrating on 15 March 2001. They organised strikes and blocked roads to protest Tanoan agricultural policy. The demonstrations continued as the Ordnungspolizei and Allgemeine SS intervened to suppress them. Security forces used force against protesters, causing casualties and making arrests.
Some farmers continued resisting during the crackdown, but the protest ended on 5 December 2001 without achieving its demands. Tanoan authorities retained control of Patagonia.[3]
