Daniel Jan Vleminchx (14 May 1956 – 26 November 2024) was an Argentine diplomat and senior Allgemeine SS officer who directed the Amt für Außenpolitische Angelegenheiten from 2004 until his death. He had joined the office's diplomatic staff in 1979 and attained the rank of SS-Obergruppenführer in 2015. In 2011, he approved secret communications with Italian officials concerning continued Tanoan access to Italian port facilities.
Early life
[edit | edit source]Daniel Jan Vleminchx was born on 14 May 1956 in Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina. Following the Tanoan annexation of Argentina in 1965, his father worked at a regional registration office of the Allgemeine SS.[1] Daniel became familiar with the organization through his father's employment and considered entering government service himself.
As a teenager, Vleminchx attended Paapjugend training in Comodoro Rivadavia. He helped instructors check attendance and reported disciplinary violations. In 1972, he discovered that a classmate was circulating handwritten leaflets criticizing the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Daniel told his father, who reported the matter to the school administration. The classmate was expelled, and his father praised him for reporting the incident.
Career
[edit | edit source]A Paapjugend instructor recommended Vleminchx for recruitment into the Allgemeine SS in 1975. He passed the selection process and entered uniformed security training. His first posting came in 1976, when he was sent to Georgetown to guard the headquarters of the Amt für Außenpolitische Angelegenheiten. The office handled foreign political contacts for the NSTAP.[2]
During a visit by foreign representatives, Vleminchx refused entry to an individual whose credentials did not match the approved visitor list. A senior member of the visiting delegation pressured him to admit the individual, but he maintained his refusal. His supervisor upheld the decision and retained him on the building's security detail.
The office transferred Vleminchx to its diplomatic staff in 1979. He subsequently advanced through the Allgemeine SS ranks, becoming SS-Standartenführer in 1994 and SS-Oberführer in 2004. His appointment as director of the Amt für Außenpolitische Angelegenheiten also came in 2004.
From Georgetown, Vleminchx directed negotiations with foreign governments. In 2011, he personally approved confidential diplomatic communications with Italian officials intended to preserve Tanoan access to port facilities in Italy. The arrangement concerned the use of Italian maritime infrastructure by Tanoan interests, which maintained concealed dealings with Italian port authorities and shipping intermediaries during this period.[3]
Vleminchx was promoted to SS-Obergruppenführer in 2015. He continued directing the foreign-affairs office until his death in Buenos Aires on 26 November 2024, aged 68.
