During the conflict, Paap used Vis-Krant to publish propaganda against the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. He survived four assassination attempts in the Netherlands and France. In 2018, he was seen on vacation in Tanoa. After the Fall of Tanoa, he was questioned by investigators, but he was not found suspicious and was not charged.

Early life

[edit | edit source]

Drik Hugerinus Paap was born in Hoogvliet, Rotterdam. He grew up in the Netherlands as part of the Paap family.

Fish Conflict

[edit | edit source]

During the Fish Conflict, Paap ran Vis-Krant, a newspaper that supported the Fish Collective and opposed the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. The newspaper published propaganda, reports and commentary against the Einsatzgruppen and their activities in Tanoa.

Paap's work made him a target during the conflict. He survived four assassination attempts. Two took place in the Netherlands, including one near a printing location used by Vis-Krant. A third attempt took place while he was travelling in France. A fourth attempt happened after he had begun residing partly in France. None of the attacks killed or permanently disabled him.

Tanoa questioning

[edit | edit source]

In 2018, Paap was seen on vacation in Tanoa. After the Fall of Tanoa, investigators questioned him because of his earlier publications against the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen and because he had been present on the island before its fall.

Paap answered questions about his visit, his contacts in Tanoa and his work for Vis-Krant. Investigators did not find him suspicious of involvement in the fall, and no criminal case was opened against him.

Personal life

[edit | edit source]

Paap has lived in the Netherlands and France. His residence in France became more regular after the assassination attempts, although he continued to work with Fish Collective press circles in the Netherlands.
