Karl-Heinz Varela was an Argentine-German Allgemeine SS officer. He commanded SS-Abschnitt Luganville from 3 August 1958 to 10 October 1964 and later headed Allgemeine SS personnel screening in Buenos Aires.
Allgemeine SS career
[edit | edit source]Varela was appointed commander of SS-Abschnitt Luganville on 3 August 1958 with the rank of SS-Oberführer. The district covered the eastern coast of Tanoa, with its headquarters in Luganville. Alejandro Horacio Küster succeeded Varela on 10 October 1964.[1]
Varela transferred to Argentina on the same date to assist Allgemeine SS preparations for the annexation of the country. He became head of personnel screening in Buenos Aires. Before the annexation, he directed the screening of political-police and internal-security personnel.[2] After the 1965 annexation, Varela supervised the absorption of approved personnel into the Allgemeine SS.[3]
