Martin Noord (born Martin Gerard van Noord; 11 April 1956) is a Dutch retired meter fitter from Rotterdam. He worked for Paap Maasstroom Meetkamer from 1974 until his retirement in 2019, installing and servicing gas and electricity meters. Noord is a member of the Noord family and is known within the family by the nickname Kleine Dwerg.

Early life and education

Martin Gerard van Noord was born in Rotterdam on 11 April 1956. His father is Angelo van Noord. Angelo Noord and Angela Noord are his siblings. Evert Angedrik Noord is his half-brother.

Noord attended Ambachtsschool Sint-Joseph in Blijdorp, Rotterdam, where he studied electrical installation. His course also covered metalwork and mechanical maintenance. After leaving school, he completed practical training in utility metering and electrical service work. He learned to install and test residential gas and electricity meters. He was also trained to inspect meter cabinets. Later instruction covered sealed connections and routine fault checks.

Career

Noord joined Paap Maasstroom Meetkamer in 1974. The Paap-owned company provided electrical and metering services in Rotterdam. It fitted residential meters and carried out utility inspections. The firm also performed small-scale electrical service work.

Noord installed gas and electricity meters in homes across Rotterdam. Apartment blocks formed a regular part of his work, while shops and workshops required smaller commercial installations. When an existing meter failed or reached the end of its service period, he replaced it and checked the surrounding cabinet. He also replaced sealed meters and completed routine reports for utility connections.

Noord remained a field meter fitter throughout his career. He retired in 2019 after 45 years with the company.

Personal life

Noord lives in Rotterdam. His nickname, Kleine Dwerg, means "Little Dwarf". He is 1.76 metres tall and weighs approximately 82 kilograms.

Noord drinks beer and smokes. He prefers cars manufactured by BMW. The phrase “Ben nu nog nuchter” is a regular expression in his speech.
