Angelo Noord (born Angelo Walther van Noord; 21 May 1960) is the first member of De Vrienden, known for his long-term role as a documentarian. He is a member of the Noord family and is notable for both his documentation of events involving the core families and his direct participation in armed conflicts such as the Takistan War.
Early life
[edit | edit source]Angelo Walther van Noord was born on 21 May 1960 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He was raised primarily in Delft, where he lived throughout his youth.
Despite residing in Delft, Angelo Noord regularly traveled to Rotterdam-Noord, where he spent significant time socializing with his friends. During this period, he frequently spent time with Martin Paap, with whom he would later form the earliest core of De Vrienden.
Born into the Noord family, a lineage historically associated with hierarchical governance and administrative continuity, his early life was shaped by family structures and expectations of the family.
During his adolescence and early adulthood, he adopted the name Angelo Noord, rejecting the van Noord portion of his birth name. This change reflected his longstanding estrangement from his father and a desire to establish an identity distinct from paternal lineage.
Formation of De Vrienden
[edit | edit source]In 1974, Angelo Noord formed a close friend group with Martin Paap, marking the beginning of what would later be known as De Vrienden. At the time, both were adolescents.
Over the following years, additional members joined the group:
- Imro van Hetten (early 1975)
- Lourens Schroeter (later 1975)
- Eef Hoos (1976)
Within the group, Angelo Noord became known for his emphasis on documentation, organization, and structural coherence.
Career and works
[edit | edit source]Throughout his life, Angelo Noord maintained extensive written records of events, interactions, and internal developments related to De Vrienden and associated families.
In 2011, Angelo Noord released a musical work titled Tering Hé, a rap song that circulated within associated subcultures of the Vrienden Universe.
Takistan War (2017–2019)
[edit | edit source]In 2017, open conflict involving Takistan began, referred as the Takistan War. Members of De Vrienden, including Angelo Noord, Martin Paap, Imro van Hetten, Lourens Schroeter, and Eef Hoos, participated directly in the conflict.
Angelo Noord’s involvement combined active participation with ongoing documentation. During 2018, the conflict intensified, and he took part in multiple armed engagements alongside other members of the group. In the same year, Martin Paap sustained a serious gunshot injury during confrontations and later recovered.
In 2019, the conflict concluded following the signing of a neutrality agreement.
Personal life
[edit | edit source]Angelo Noord is known as a man that loves dark humor, leather and having a the word Tering as his favorite word to use.
Unverified claims regarding interpersonal relationships within his immediate family have circulated within internal narratives; these remain contested and are not independently confirmed.
Angelo Noord owns a red BMW 1M, originally acquired in 2006. The vehicle was downtuned in December 2007.
During 2006, many members of the Noord family experienced a period of relative stability and ease in daily life. This period coincided with the operation of an automotive manufacturer known as Niel. Niel functioned as a short-lived industrial and symbolic project associated with this phase.
Following a leadership shift within the Paap family in November 2007, internal conditions affecting the Noord family changed. Noords described a return to prolonged dissatisfaction and depressive outlook. In this context, Niel was disbanded, and no successor project was established.
Later years
[edit | edit source]In 2021, Angelo Noord spent approximately one year in Tanoa, during which he had limited contact with the other members of De Vrienden.
He stated when he returned that he observed Mark Hugerinus Paap operating in the jungles of Tanoa.
