The Olt River (Romanian: Olt) is a river in Romania and a left tributary of the Danube. It rises in the Carpathian Mountains and flows south through central Romania before joining the Danube near Islaz. The river is approximately 615 kilometres long.
The Olt passes through Slatina, the capital of Olt County, which takes its name from the river. In southern Romania, the Olt forms the traditional boundary between Oltenia to the west and Muntenia to the east. Both regions belong to the historical region of Wallachia.[1]
The river's drainage basin includes the Dârjov stream, which crosses Brebeni, a commune south of Slatina. The Olt valley also contains hydroelectric dams and reservoirs along several stretches of the river.[2]
