Martin Noord (born Martin Gerard van Noord; 11 April 1956) is a Dutch retired meter fitter from Rotterdam and a member of the Noord family. From 1974 until his retirement in 2019, he worked for Paap Maasstroom Meetkamer, where he installed and serviced gas and electricity meters. Within the Noord family, he is known by the nickname Kleine Dwerg.
Early life
Martin Gerard van Noord was born in Rotterdam on 11 April 1956. His father is Angelo van Noord.[1] Angelo Noord and Angela Noord are his siblings, while Evert Angedrik Noord is his half-brother.[2]
Noord attended Ambachtsschool Sint-Joseph in Blijdorp, where he studied electrical installation. His course also covered metalwork and mechanical maintenance. After leaving school, he received practical training in utility metering and learned to install and test residential gas and electricity meters. He was trained to inspect meter cabinets and later received instruction in sealed connections and routine fault checks.
Career
Noord joined Paap Maasstroom Meetkamer in 1974 and worked as a field meter fitter in Rotterdam. He installed gas and electricity meters in homes and apartment buildings, while shops and workshops required smaller commercial installations.
When a meter failed or reached the end of its service period, Noord replaced it and checked the meter cabinet. He also replaced sealed meters and completed routine reports for utility connections. He remained a field meter fitter until his retirement in 2019 after 45 years with the company.
Personal life
Noord lives in Rotterdam. His nickname, Kleine Dwerg, means "Little Dwarf". He is 1.76 metres tall and weighs approximately 82 kilograms.
Noord drinks beer and smokes. He sometimes adds liquor to smoothies bought from fast-food restaurants. He prefers cars manufactured by BMW and regularly uses the phrase "Ben nu nog nuchter".
