Matías Krüger Aranda (born 9 July 1983) is a former Allgemeine SS officer of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen who was convicted of aiding crimes against humanity and knowing membership in the criminal Allgemeine SS. He served as an SS-Obersturmführer and worked as a technical liaison to Snubable Shrankenhaus, where he approved fittings for armored vehicles used in Aktion Shrankenhaus. The operation resulted in the 2017 Slatina massacre. In 2025, the Georgetown Tribunal sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

Early life

[edit | edit source]

Matías Krüger Aranda was born on 9 July 1983 in Georgetown, Tanoa. His father was an officer in the Allgemeine SS, while his mother taught at a state school in Georgetown. His father imposed strict discipline at home and regularly checked his schoolwork.

In 1995, Matías received a poor mathematics grade. His father made him repeat his school exercises every evening for a week. Matías completed the work and subsequently became more careful about checking his calculations.

During a technical drawing class in 1998, he noticed that the gear spacing in a supplied gearbox drawing was incorrect. He redrew the assembly with corrected dimensions. After examining his work, the teacher offered him additional drafting lessons after school.

Allgemeine SS career

[edit | edit source]

In 2001, Krüger Aranda took the entrance examination for an Allgemeine SS technical training programme in Georgetown at his father's encouragement. He passed the mathematics and spatial reasoning assessments and began training in mechanical drafting for military vehicle maintenance.

After completing his initial training in 2003, he joined a technical drawing office in Georgetown. One of his first assignments concerned replacement axle brackets for military vehicles. Mechanics had prepared sketches of the required parts, which Krüger Aranda converted into dimensioned production drawings. The workshop manufactured the brackets using his plans, and he was retained for further vehicle design work.

His father arranged an interview with an Allgemeine SS officer-selection board in 2006. Krüger Aranda passed the assessments and completed officer training. He was commissioned as an SS-Untersturmführer in 2007 and returned to the Georgetown technical drawing office as a junior officer.

Assignment in Argentina

[edit | edit source]

In 2009, Krüger Aranda was sent to an Allgemeine SS-supported vehicle workshop in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for six months. While examining plans for the workshop, he discovered that the proposed arrangement of vehicle lifts would obstruct the route used to move heavy components into the repair bays.

He worked with the mechanics to revise the floor plan. The workshop adopted his layout before installing the lifts, and he returned to Georgetown after completing the assignment.

His superior received a favourable assessment from the Argentine workshop in 2010. The report confirmed that Krüger Aranda's revised floor plan had been adopted. His superior recommended him for promotion, which Allgemeine SS headquarters approved in 2011. Krüger Aranda became an SS-Obersturmführer and continued working in the Georgetown technical drawing office.

Later service in Georgetown

[edit | edit source]

Krüger Aranda's relationship with his father deteriorated in 2012. Despite his commissioned rank, his father continued questioning his personal expenses and decisions. An argument followed when Matías refused to let him inspect his finances. He rented an apartment in Georgetown and stopped visiting his father for several months, although he continued seeing his mother.

In late 2015, his technical office chief nominated him for an assignment to Snubable Shrankenhaus in Romania. The recommendation cited his workshop redesign in Buenos Aires and his subsequent service record. Krüger Aranda attended an interview with officers coordinating Tanoan industrial assistance and was selected for deployment in 2016.

Snubable Shrankenhaus

[edit | edit source]

Krüger Aranda arrived at Snubable Shrankenhaus's production plant in Căciulați, Moara Vlăsiei, in 2016. The department received technical material from the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen, including plans for modular armored frames and reinforced transport cabins. Krüger Aranda worked under Snubable's senior engineers as a liaison between its workshops and the Tanoan technical offices.[1]

While examining drawings for reinforced vehicle cabins, he discovered that two workshop teams were using different mounting-hole positions for the same fittings. He measured the existing assemblies and prepared a common production drawing. The senior engineers approved his correction, and the workshop adopted the revised dimensions.

Aktion Shrankenhaus

[edit | edit source]

In 2017, Krüger Aranda was assigned to inspect reinforced cabin fittings on armored vehicles being prepared for Aktion Shrankenhaus. He examined their mounting points and approved corrected fitting drawings under the authority of Snubable's senior engineers.

The vehicles were subsequently used to transport armed A-Series clones to Slatina, Romania. The deployment resulted in the 2017 Slatina massacre, in which an estimated 34,000 to 40,000 people were killed.[2]

Krüger Aranda remained at Snubable after the massacre. He knew that the vehicles he had inspected were used during the operation but continued approving technical drawings for the department. In 2018, he supervised revisions to the reinforced cabin mounting drawings and remained in Romania until the end of the year.

Return to Georgetown

[edit | edit source]

Krüger Aranda returned to Georgetown in January 2019 but retained his position as the Allgemeine SS technical liaison to Snubable Shrankenhaus.

While reviewing production drawings sent from Căciulați, he found that corrected drawings were being circulated without revision identifiers. He instructed the Romanian technical staff to distinguish approved drawings from superseded versions. Snubable's senior engineers accepted the revised approval procedure.

His father underwent knee surgery in Georgetown in 2020. When his mother could not arrange transport from the hospital, Matías agreed to collect him. They discussed ordinary family matters during the journey without mentioning their argument from 2012. Matías subsequently visited his parents occasionally, although his relationship with his father remained distant.

In 2022, his technical office chief reassigned him to supervise the training of two newly commissioned Allgemeine SS technical officers. He prepared practical assessments in which the trainees measured vehicle assemblies and corrected production drawings. Krüger Aranda handed his Snubable correspondence to another liaison officer, ending his direct work with the Romanian department.

Arrest and conviction

[edit | edit source]

Following Eef Paap's death on 24 November 2024, Krüger Aranda remained at his technical training office in Georgetown. Orders from Allgemeine SS headquarters stopped arriving, and he sent the remaining trainees home.

The Allgemeine SS was dissolved on 30 November 2024 following the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Its offices in Georgetown were closed and personnel records were secured.[3] Krüger Aranda surrendered to resistance forces taking control of the offices and was detained for questioning about his SS service and his work for Snubable Shrankenhaus.

During the investigation in 2025, prosecutors recovered correspondence from 2017 showing that he had received advance notice that the armored vehicles he approved would support an operation targeting civilians in Slatina. He was charged with aiding crimes against humanity and knowing membership in the criminal Allgemeine SS.

Krüger Aranda acknowledged having approved the vehicles' technical drawings but denied knowing that the operation would involve mass killings.

The Georgetown Tribunal tried him in mid-2025. Prosecutors presented the recovered correspondence and his technical approval records. The judges found that Krüger Aranda knew civilians would be targeted but continued approving the fittings needed for the deployment. They rejected his argument that he had not anticipated the number of people who would be killed.

He was convicted on both charges and sentenced to 20 years in prison. The tribunal did not find that he had commanded Aktion Shrankenhaus.

Imprisonment

[edit | edit source]

Krüger Aranda's father was also convicted following the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. After their separate convictions in 2025, the two began exchanging letters through their respective places of detention.

Their correspondence concerned the collapse of Tanoa and their trials. They also discussed family matters. Neither accepted responsibility for the other's decisions, but they maintained contact despite their earlier disagreements.

In February 2026, Matías wrote to his father acknowledging that he had knowingly continued approving vehicle fittings after learning that civilians would be targeted in Slatina. He admitted that he could have refused the work but had chosen to protect his SS career. His father replied that Matías alone had made that decision.

In June 2026, Krüger Aranda requested an interview with investigators examining Aktion Shrankenhaus. He acknowledged his knowledge of the planned attack on civilians and identified the senior Snubable engineers who had instructed him to continue approving the vehicle fittings. He also explained how the production drawings had passed through the department's approval process. Investigators recorded his statement, but his 20-year prison sentence remained unchanged.

The following month, he informed his father that he had identified the engineers to investigators. His father accused him of betraying former colleagues and refused further correspondence. Krüger Aranda sent another letter several weeks later but received no reply.
