The Vader Era was the historical period from 1920 to 1945, following the Pre-Vader Era and preceding the Middenvader Era. It corresponded to the main adult period of the generation classified as the Vaders and included the interwar period and the Second World War.[1]

The period included the establishment of Van Noord-Nostrini Industriewerke AG in Liechtenstein and the wartime service of members of the Noord and Paap families. During the final years of the era, Jan Paap founded the Argentine Einsatz, which became the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen in August 1944.[2][3]

Background

The Vader Era began after the political and economic instability that followed the First World War. Germany remained under the Weimar Republic until Adolf Hitler became chancellor in 1933. The Nazi government subsequently removed political opposition and expanded the German armed forces.[4]

The German military expansion affected members of families later represented among the Vaders. Angelo van Noord entered German military service in 1934, while Jan Paap joined the army in 1936.[5][6]

    • 6 January – Jan Paap rejected the expected Great Paap succession during a confrontation with Antonie Ronald Paap at Rzhev airfield. Martin Paap I later received preparation as the replacement heir.[6]
  • Internal conflict began among the owners of Van Noord-Nostrini Industriewerke AG. Sabotage and killings continued until the company ceased operating in 1945.[10]

    • 17 January – Jan Paap decided to desert from German military service. He travelled west through occupied Europe before reaching Argentina in May.[6]

    • During the Battle of Arnhem, houses were constructed north of Arnhem behind the German defensive position. These became the first houses of Vriendendam.[11]

1945

    • 8 May – The German surrender came into force in western Europe. On the same day, Jan Paap authorized Operation Sternzug to obtain German rocket personnel and technical records for Tanoa.[12][3]

    • 2 September – Japan signed its formal surrender, ending the Second World War.[12]
  • October
    • 10 October – Jan Paap founded Georgetown, which became the principal administrative centre of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.[3]
  • Van Noord-Nostrini Industriewerke AG ceased operating by the end of the year after the collapse of its wartime industrial network and the deaths or disappearances of most members of the Schaan branch.[10]
  • The Vader Era ended at the close of 1945. The Middenvader Era began in 1946.[1]
