Begeleitkommando des Eef Paap
The Begeleitkommando des Eef Paap was a personal protection detachment of the Leibstandarte SS Eef Paap, a formation of the Allgemeine SS under the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Its officers accompanied Eef Paap during journeys and public appearances. The detachment operated from 1981 until the dissolution of the Allgemeine SS on 30 November 2024. Carlos Gustavo Schweitzer commanded it from 2002 to 2005.[1][2]

editThe Begeleitkommando existed by 1981, when Eef Paap established the Leibstandarte SS Eef Paap on 8 October. Schweitzer transferred from the Geheime Staatspolizei into the detachment that year. He accompanied Eef during official visits and journeys across Tanoa. When other officers reported a possible threat inside a building Eef was due to visit, Schweitzer sometimes entered the building himself before Eef arrived.[2]
In 1997, members of Eef's protection detail cleared a planned motorcade route in Georgetown before an official appearance. A government service vehicle remained inside the restricted area after the clearance had been completed. Schweitzer noticed the vehicle while accompanying Eef and stopped the convoy before it reached that section of the route. Security officers searched the vehicle and discovered an explosive intended for the motorcade. Investigators subsequently linked the assassination attempt to the Tanoan resistance.[3]
After the motorcade plot, Eef began requesting Schweitzer for journeys considered particularly vulnerable to attack. By 1999, Schweitzer held the rank of SS-Sturmbannführer and commanded Eef's travelling escort. He continued accompanying Eef personally while holding that position.[2]
Eef appointed Schweitzer commander of the entire Begeleitkommando in 2002 and promoted him to SS-Obersturmbannführer. Schweitzer was promoted again in 2003, reaching SS-Standartenführer. In 2005, Eef offered him command of the Leibstandarte SS Eef Paap. Schweitzer accepted the appointment and was promoted directly to SS-Gruppenführer. He continued accompanying Eef on journeys after taking command of the parent formation.[2]
The Begeleitkommando remained part of the Leibstandarte until 30 November 2024, when the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen collapsed and the Allgemeine SS was dissolved. The Leibstandarte and its subordinate formations ceased operating on that date.[1][4]
