The 1st Allgemeine SS Division "Siege Chiche" was an infantry division of the Allgemeine SS under the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Established in 1949, the division was named by Jan Paap after Chiche Alem, who later commanded it. The formation participated in the Fish Conflict, including the Battle of Petit Nicolet in September 2023. It remained active until the dissolution of the Allgemeine SS on 30 November 2024.[1][2][3][4]
History
[edit | edit source]The division was established in 1949. Following the birth of Chiche Alem on 25 October that year, Jan Paap named the formation after him. Chiche was the son of Jose Alem, who had become the first Reichsführer-SS when the Allgemeine SS was formed in 1944. Chiche entered the organization in 1969 and later served as commander of the division named after him.[1][2]
Benito Blandino joined the division in 1963 after entering the Allgemeine SS. In 1971, Carlos Gustavo Schweitzer joined as an SS-Untersturmführer and took command of a small patrol unit on Ravi-Ta. He remained in the division until 1973, when he transferred to the Geheime Staatspolizei and was posted to Fiji.[5][6]
After the Tanoan Conquest of the Falklands ended in a ceasefire on 8 April 2017, Blandino was appointed Reichcomisario of the Tanoa-controlled western Falkland Islands. He formed the Malvinas Unit within the Siege Chiche division. The unit operated in the occupied territory, where Blandino remained Reichcomisario until 2024.[7][8]
Battle of Petit Nicolet
[edit | edit source]On 10 September 2023, soldiers of the division attacked an evacuation organized by the Tanoan resistance and the Fish Collective in Petit Nicolet. Native families were being escorted from the village to a waiting boat when the division attacked at approximately 22:35.
Mark Hugerinus Paap and John Hugerinus Paap used sniper rifles to cover the civilians as they boarded. Resistance fighters on the opposite side of the street exchanged fire with the attacking soldiers. Despite the fighting, the boat departed with the evacuated families.[3]
The battle ended with 12 resistance fighters and 20 Tanoa Einsatzgruppen soldiers killed. The division failed to prevent the evacuation.[9]
Dissolution
[edit | edit source]The division ceased operating on 30 November 2024 following the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. The Allgemeine SS was dissolved that day, ending the service of its subordinate divisions.[4]
