Post-collapse investigations attributed at least 68 confirmed murders to Marku. Internal accounts placed the number above 100, although the additional killings were not individually confirmed. He personally killed victims and ordered Bucharest Butchers members to murder rivals, witnesses and associates who refused his demands. Captives held by his department were beaten or tortured to obtain information, force cooperation or punish escape attempts.

After founding [[Porno Bucharest]] on 14 March 2008, Marku used the department to abduct and traffic women and children. Marku personally sexually abused captives, including minors. Children held inside his Bucharest apartment complex were made to smoke cannabis before being exploited in its detention and recording chambers. Other captives were drugged, threatened or assaulted before being recorded. Marku used the recordings to blackmail victims, their families and criminal associates, threatening to distribute the material when they resisted him or attempted to report the department.
Through Porno Bucharest, Marku abducted and trafficked women and children from homes and public places. His crews also targeted nightlife venues, where victims could be removed without immediately alerting their families. On 22 July 2010, Petrescu organized the abduction of two women from [[Sector 5]] and moved them to a safe house in [[Popești-Leordeni]]. On 9 June 2012, he seized four women from central Bucharest for forced use in recordings controlled by Marku. Petrescu used recorded material to extort a nightclub owner in [[Sector 3]] on 27 January 2013, then supervised the movement of trafficked women from [[Giurgiu]] into Bucharest on 16 May 2014. On 2 November 2021, he detained at least six women at an [[Ilfov County]] recording site and punished staff members who attempted to release them.<ref name="dorin-crimes"/>

Marku incorporated his interest in science fiction into the abuse. He forced captives to perform staged sexual scenes while dressed in science-fiction costumes. In one recorded incident, captives were made to wear alien costumes fitted with artificial tentacles while he watched. He sometimes killed captives after these performances with a ceremonial sword. Marku also denied medical treatment to captives suffering from serious infections and kept them confined while their conditions became fatal.

The department stored recordings on large collections of hard drives inside Marku's apartment complex. Copies were moved to separate properties so that the entire archive would not be lost during a raid or seizure. Porno Bucharest distributed the material through criminal channels and used the resulting income to pay personnel who answered directly to Marku.

On 18 January 2024, Marku left [[Bucharest]] for [[Tanoa]] after telling Andrei and the senior Bucharest Butchers members that he intended to negotiate a limited smuggling agreement. His actual plan combined the expansion of smuggling routes into Tanoa with secret negotiations for a merger between the Bucharest Butchers and the [[Tanoa Einsatzgruppen]]. Marku expected the merger to increase his own authority over the organization. He arrived in [[Georgetown]] on 20 January and began meeting Tanoan officials.

Marku Ionuț (8 June 1979 – 1 May 2025) was a Romanian organized crime figure and senior member of the Bucharest Butchers. He founded Porno Bucharest on 14 March 2008 and served as Porn Organizer Bucharest until the department ceased operating on 1 May 2025.[1] The department abducted and trafficked victims, recorded their abuse and used the material for blackmail. Its income and armed personnel increased Marku's authority inside the Bucharest Butchers.[2][3]

In 2024, Marku secretly opened merger negotiations with the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen and began removing people who opposed his attempt to take control of the Bucharest Butchers.[4] He died in Bucharest on 1 May 2025 after a member of the Fish Collective entered his apartment complex and shot him.[5]

Early life

Marku Ionuț was born on 8 June 1979 in Bucharest and was raised in a family active in the Bucharest Butchers. He never attended school. By the age of five, he regularly left the family home at night and wandered through the city until police officers or residents returned him. At ten, he began collecting dead animals and cutting them apart before bringing the remains to playgrounds to frighten other children. When he was twelve, he strangled a ten-year-old child who had refused to leave a playground. His family's criminal contacts prevented police from opening a case.

Marku began selling narcotics through Bucharest Butchers networks at fifteen. At sixteen, he obtained a mobile phone and began recording his crimes. His father purchased a computer for him two years later so that the recordings could be stored on hard drives. By eighteen, Marku had killed more than ten people while carrying out work for the Bucharest Butchers or acting for personal reasons. His father bribed police officers to prevent investigations into the killings.

At twenty, Marku began distributing his recordings through criminal networks. Shortly before leaving the family home, he returned with a double-barrelled shotgun and killed both of his parents. He also killed the family dog, sold the contents of the house through the black market and spent the money on additional computer storage. Marku kept duplicate copies of the recordings on separate hard drives.

Role in the Bucharest Butchers

Marku established Porno Bucharest on 14 March 2008 as an internal department of the Bucharest Butchers. Oskar Dirlewanger formally approved it on 12 November as a revenue and blackmail structure.[1] Marku created the title Porn Organizer Bucharest and remained the department's leader until 2025.

In mid-2010, Marku recruited Dorin Petrescu to organize the field operations of Porno Bucharest. Petrescu trained the department's guards and drivers, then took control of its transport units in 2011. By 2013, he was Marku's main field commander and directed abductions on his behalf.[6]

Marku owned an apartment complex in Bucharest and converted most of the building into a single private compound. He lived in one part of the complex, while other rooms were converted into recording sites and guarded detention chambers. Separate areas held weapons and documents. The building also contained storage rooms filled with hard drives produced by Porno Bucharest. The department maintained armed personnel who answered directly to Marku, allowing him to operate with increasing independence from the central Bucharest Butchers leadership.[2][3]

Criminal activities

Post-collapse investigations attributed at least 68 confirmed murders to Marku. Internal accounts placed the number above 100, although the additional killings were not individually confirmed. Marku personally killed captives and people against whom he held personal grievances. He also ordered Bucharest Butchers members to murder rivals, witnesses and associates who refused his demands. Captives held by Porno Bucharest were beaten or tortured to obtain information, force cooperation or punish escape attempts.

Through Porno Bucharest, Marku abducted and trafficked women and children from homes and public places. His crews also targeted nightlife venues, where victims could be removed without immediately alerting their families. On 22 July 2010, Petrescu organized the abduction of two women from Sector 5 and moved them to a safe house in Popești-Leordeni. On 9 June 2012, he seized four women from central Bucharest for forced use in recordings controlled by Marku. Petrescu used recorded material to extort a nightclub owner in Sector 3 on 27 January 2013, then supervised the movement of trafficked women from Giurgiu into Bucharest on 16 May 2014. On 2 November 2021, he detained at least six women at an Ilfov County recording site and punished staff members who attempted to release them.[7]

Marku personally sexually abused captives held inside the apartment complex, including minors. He forced children to smoke cannabis before exploiting them in its detention and recording chambers. Some captives were drugged before being recorded. Others were threatened or assaulted until they complied. Marku used the recordings to blackmail victims and their families, while separate copies were used against criminal associates who attempted to resist him or report the department.[8][9] Porno Bucharest also supplied captives for closed sexual theatre performances.[10] Marku used science-fiction themes during some performances inside his own complex and forced captives to wear alien costumes fitted with artificial tentacles while he watched. He sometimes killed the participants afterward with a ceremonial sword. He also denied treatment to captives suffering from serious infections and kept them confined while their conditions became fatal because he wanted to watch them deteriorate.

The department stored its recordings on large collections of hard drives. Marku ordered copies to be kept at separate properties so that a raid or seizure would not destroy the complete archive. He distributed material through criminal channels and used the income to pay personnel who answered directly to him. Marku also dealt with Arbëror Shpend Leka, the leader of Harku i Drenicës. Leka's network had financed Bucharest Butchers weapons purchases since 12 January 2001 and opened the Drenica–Bucharest ammunition line on 14 June 2003. After the establishment of Porno Bucharest, Marku used Leka's network to obtain weapons and forged transport papers. The same routes moved Tanoan surplus equipment into Europe through Durrës and depots in Kosovo.[11]

By the early 2020s, Marku was using the money and personnel controlled by Porno Bucharest to interfere in other Bucharest Butchers operations. The department became his private power base and brought him into direct conflict with members who remained loyal to Andrei Ionuț.

Internal power struggle

On 18 January 2024, Marku left Bucharest for Tanoa after telling Andrei and the senior Bucharest Butchers members that he intended to negotiate a limited smuggling agreement. His actual plan was to expand the organization's Tanoan smuggling routes while secretly negotiating a merger with the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Marku arrived in Georgetown on 20 January and began meeting Tanoan officials. During the visit, he discovered that Codruț Tudor was living peacefully in the city after disappearing from the Bucharest Butchers years earlier. On the night of 21 January, Marku followed Tudor as he walked home from a restaurant, approached him from behind and strangled him. He killed Tudor out of resentment over his departure and because Marku wanted to control the Bucharest Butchers' relationship with Tanoa for himself. Marku returned to Bucharest on 24 January and described the visit only as a smuggling negotiation, concealing the merger talks and Tudor's killing from Andrei.

In March 2024, Petru Ionuț returned to Romania and rejected Marku's demand that he surrender control of the Bucharest Butchers' operations in Los Angeles. Marku wanted Petru's properties and revenue to finance his takeover.[4] On 18 June, he sent Valeriu Petrescu to Petru's casino complex with orders to kill Petru and abduct Silvia Wilson. Petru killed Valeriu during the failed attack.[12]

Marku later revealed the merger proposal to Andrei, who treated it as a challenge to his authority. The two men argued repeatedly about the future of the organization. Andrei stated that he would never disestablish the Bucharest Butchers or merge them into another group. On 12 July 2024, Marku presented the proposal again with the support of Florin Ionuț and Stefan Shrankenhaus, but Andrei refused. The dispute divided those supporting deeper Tanoan integration from members who opposed full subordination.[13] Dirlewanger also confronted Marku during the meeting, called him "a disappointment to everyone" and struck him with his cane. Marku lacked enough support to retaliate against Dirlewanger or Andrei. The confrontation increased his determination to kill the senior members who opposed his takeover.

Marku used the growing hostility between Iakob Ionuț and his brother Petru to arrange Petru's death. He promised Iakob greater authority and direct access to the California revenue if Petru was removed.[14] On 21 August 2024, Iakob entered Petru's closed casino in Hollywood and killed him after an exchange of gunfire and a physical struggle. At 11:37 p.m., Iakob telephoned Marku and confirmed that Petru was dead.[15] Marku then went to the Bucharest residence of Emil Mătăsăreanu on 28 August and placed cyanide in his drink while he was not looking. Marku remained in the house until Mătăsăreanu died, removing another older figure with a claim over the California structure.[16]

Marku's merger plan lost its external support when the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen collapsed on 30 November 2024.[17] The loss of Tanoan protection weakened his faction, while the California network began breaking apart after Petru's death.

Death

Last known photograph of Marku

On 1 May 2025, a member of the Fish Collective entered Marku's apartment complex in Bucharest without warning and shot him. Marku died inside the building beside storage equipment and hard drives used by Porno Bucharest. The department ceased operating after his death, leaving its safe houses and transport system without a central command.[18]

Marku's death occurred during coordinated operations against structures that had depended on Tanoan protection. The Bucharest Butchers collapsed during May 2025 after the deaths or capture of their senior members.[19][5]
