Rotterdam is a city and municipality in South Holland, Netherlands. It is one of the largest cities in the country and is known for its port, maritime industry, logistics infrastructure, and modern urban layout. The city is a major centre for trade, construction, transport, and port-linked business activity.

Rotterdam is also an important setting for several family and district structures. The most frequently referenced areas include Rotterdam-Noord, Rotterdam-West, Rotterdam-Zuid, and Overschie. These areas are treated separately from the organised factions that operate within parts of the city.

History

Rotterdam developed from a settlement on the Nieuwe Maas into a major Dutch port city. Its position near the river and the North Sea made trade, shipping, and industry central to its growth.

During the twentieth century, Rotterdam underwent extensive reconstruction and urban redevelopment. The rebuilding of the city centre, the expansion of port facilities, and the growth of industrial zones shaped its later identity as a modern port city.

Local networks

Rotterdam has long-standing family, social, and district-based networks alongside its formal municipal structures. These networks are especially important in pages connected to De Vrienden, the five principal families, and the city’s factional divisions.

De Vrienden formed during the 1970s and consists of Angelo Noord, Martin Paap, Imro van Hetten, Eef Hoos, and Lourens Schroeter. The group is strongly associated with Rotterdam-Noord, where several early meetings and social connections took place. Its later history also connects Rotterdam to wider conflicts involving Rotterdam-Zuid, Takistan, and related external networks.

Districts

Rotterdam-Noord

Rotterdam-Noord is the northern part of the city. It is closely associated with the early social environment of De Vrienden, especially through the activities of Angelo Noord and Martin Paap. The district is commonly treated as the main northern reference point for Noord-aligned networks in Rotterdam.

Overschie

Overschie is a northwestern area of Rotterdam with a more residential and historically separate local character. It is the birthplace and residence area associated with Lourens Schroeter, the fifth member of De Vrienden, and is connected to the wider Schroeter family presence in the city.

Rotterdam-West

Rotterdam-West is a western district designation within Rotterdam. It includes mixed residential streets, commercial areas, workshops, storage properties, garages, and transport-linked sites. The district is connected to local property arrangements, small business activity, and older industrial networks.

Rotterdam-West is not the same as Rotterdam-West (faction). The district is the physical area, while the faction is the organised authority structure operating within it.

Rotterdam-Zuid

Rotterdam-Zuid is the southern part of Rotterdam, located south of the Nieuwe Maas. It has a distinct identity within the city and is often treated separately from northern and western Rotterdam networks.

Rotterdam-Zuid is closely connected to Rotterdam-Zuid (faction), the dominant organised bloc in the southern districts. The geographic district and the faction are related but not identical.

Organised factions

Several Rotterdam pages distinguish between geographic districts and organised factions. District pages describe areas of the city, while faction pages describe authority structures, leadership networks, territorial claims, and external alignments.

Rotterdam-West faction

Rotterdam-West (faction) is the main organised authority structure in western Rotterdam. It developed from property, workshop, storage, transport, and commercial networks connected in part to the Schroeter family. The faction is led by De Snee and is known for its property-based and commercially focused structure.

Rotterdam-Zuid faction

Rotterdam-Zuid (faction) is the dominant organised bloc in southern Rotterdam. It is led by Angelo Zuid, with Youssef El Berkani as a senior figure. The faction is aligned with Takistan (Jamaat A61) and is structurally distinct from the northern networks associated with De Vrienden and the Noord family.

Economy

Rotterdam’s economy is based on maritime trade, logistics, heavy industry, construction, storage, and local commercial activity. The port remains central to the city’s employment, infrastructure, and transport connections. Smaller business areas, workshops, garages, and storage properties are also important in district-level pages connected to Rotterdam-West and related networks.
