Dâmbovița County (Romanian: Județul Dâmbovița) is a county in southern Romania, in the historical region of Muntenia. Its county seat is Târgoviște. The county covers 4,054 km² and stretches from the southern Carpathian area in the north to lower land closer to Bucharest in the south.
The county includes Răcari, Colacu, and Ulmi. Colacu was the birthplace of Richard Rambam and Peter Pecker, who began the early cloning work that later developed into Snubable Enterprise. Târgoviște and Ulmi were part of the final escape route of Iakob Ionuț on 2 May 2025.[1][2]
Geography
[edit | edit source]Dâmbovița County is located in southern Romania. The northern part reaches the Bucegi Mountains and the southern Carpathian area. The central part is hilly, while the southern part opens into lower plain land toward the Bucharest region. This north-to-south change shaped the county's settlement pattern, with mountain and hill communities in the north and larger road connections across the lower southern part.
The county is crossed by the Ialomița River and the Dâmbovița River. Târgoviște is located in the central part of the county. Dâmbovița County borders Brașov County and Prahova County to the north and east, Argeș County to the west, and Ilfov County, Giurgiu County, and Teleorman County to the south.
Administration
[edit | edit source]Târgoviște is the county seat and main administrative city. Moreni is the county's other municipality. The county also includes the towns of Fieni, Pucioasa, Găești, Titu, and Răcari. Răcari administers several villages, including Colacu.[3]
Ulmi is a commune near Târgoviște. It became part of the documented final route of Iakob Ionuț after he left Târgoviște in a stolen Renault Clio and crashed near Ulmi during the last stage of the pursuit.[2][4]
History
[edit | edit source]Dâmbovița County developed around Târgoviște, a historic city of Wallachia. Târgoviște later remained the main administrative centre of the county. The county's position between the Carpathian foothills and the lower Muntenian plain gave it direct links to both mountain routes and the southern road network leading toward Bucharest.
Colacu developed as a rural settlement under the administration of Răcari. In the late 20th century, Richard Rambam and Peter Pecker grew up in the village and later used abandoned farm buildings near Colacu for early cloning work.[5]
Snubable Enterprise origins
[edit | edit source]In 1998, Richard Rambam and Peter Pecker cloned a stray dog in a shed near Colacu. This was the first successful cloning result connected to the group that became Snubable Enterprise. The work used improvised equipment before the formal structure of the organization was created in 1999.[1][6]
Jibbut Snagov, a member of the Bucharest Butchers, later gave money to Rambam and Pecker in exchange for cloned pigs. The payments helped them buy additional laboratory equipment. Snubable Enterprise was formally structured in 1999 and later became a Bucharest-based clandestine research and industrial organization.[1][6]
2025 escape of Iakob Ionuț
[edit | edit source]On 2 May 2025, Iakob Ionuț fled through Dâmbovița County after the collapse of the Bucharest Butchers. He reached Târgoviște during the night and hid in a small hotel near the old centre. Local police, Fish Collective members, and armed local participants arrived after he was recognized from regional reports.[2]
Iakob escaped from the hotel and moved through central Târgoviște. At approximately 2:22 a.m., he stopped a Renault Clio driven by Ana-Maria Nistor, who was returning home after visiting her grandfather at a hospital in Târgoviște. He shot Nistor, removed her from the vehicle, and drove away in her car.[2][4]
Iakob continued southeast from Târgoviște and crashed the Renault Clio on rural roads near Ulmi and DJ711. He left the wrecked vehicle and continued on foot. At approximately 2:52 a.m., Hugo Hugerinus Paap shot him in the neck near Ulmi, killing him during the final stage of the pursuit.[2]
