During the Vriend Era, the Paap family became one of the five principal families of De Vrienden. The Hugerinus lineage and Jan Paap lineage remained established branches of the family.

Naming conventions

The earliest members of the family used the surname Nikolopoulos. Paap became the hereditary surname after the family settled in the Dutch Republic.

The Hugerinus lineage uses four-letter first names for bearers of the Hugerinus name. Disambiguation is used in page titles where multiple family members share the same name.
