The Deputy Führer of Tanoa (German: Stellvertretender Führer) was the second-highest political office in the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen from 6 November 1980 until 30 November 2024. The Deputy Führer served directly below the Führer of Tanoa as the Führer's second-in-command and automatically succeeded to the Führership if the serving Führer died. Daniel Paap was the first and only holder of the office.
History
[edit | edit source]Eef Paap created the office on 6 November 1980, the same day his accession as Führer was formally marked in Georgetown. Daniel Paap was appointed Deputy Führer when the office was established.[1][2] The automatic succession rule began with the creation of the office. The earlier transfer of the Führership from Jan Paap to Eef in January 1980 had been arranged by Jan before his retirement.[2]
Daniel acted as Eef's second-in-command. When Eef was absent, Daniel chaired senior government meetings and passed Eef's instructions to ministers.
Daniel was killed in Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina, on 5 August 2024 during an ambush by the Fish Collective.[3] The Deputy Führer office remained vacant after his death. In September, Chiche Alem privately urged Eef to appoint Eef Paap Jr. as Deputy Führer. Eef had already smuggled his son to Florida without telling Alem. He rejected the proposal, shouting that it was outrageous, and did not appoint him. Alem did not propose another candidate.
Eef was killed on 24 November 2024 while the Deputy Führer office was still vacant. No Deputy Führer was therefore available to succeed him, and no new Führer was appointed during the remaining six days of the government.[4] The government ceased to function on 30 November 2024, and the office of Deputy Führer was abolished with it.[5]
