The Weltraumgruppen were the branch of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen responsible for spaceflight programs. They controlled the regime's orbital infrastructure and extraterrestrial installations.[1] Founded in 1956, the branch remained under the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen until the regime collapsed in 2024.
The organization developed from a postwar rocket office built around German V-2 records and personnel obtained through Operation Sternzug. Argentine aerospace officers later assumed its industrial administration. Recovery of extraterrestrial technology in 1979 allowed the branch to establish permanent off-world industry. By 2014, its Planetarische Verwaltung governed three planets.
The Weltraumgruppen also maintained orbital warships and self-contained city-ships. Its Exobiologische Hauptstelle registered extraterrestrial organisms and materials recovered during survey or occupation missions. A 2021 retrieval mission later supplied a living specimen to a Snubable hybrid-research program.[2][3]
Origins and formation
The Tanoa Einsatzgruppen began its rocket program after the German surrender on 8 May 1945. Allied forces were taking custody of German rocket personnel and technical records at the time. Tanoa could not participate openly in the occupation of Germany, so Jan Paap authorized Operation Sternzug to obtain the same expertise through covert routes. Glöbbery organized false identities and altered prisoner files. Its network also arranged concealed transport from occupied Germany. Argentine contacts received personnel and technical cargo before their transfer to Tanoa. These contacts extended the Patagonian network through which Jan Paap had formed the Argentine Einsatz in 1944.[4]
The first copied V-2 archive reached Tanoan custody on 3 June 1945. Walter Dornberger was removed from Allied prisoner tracking on 21 June. Wernher von Braun followed during a staged medical transfer on 2 July. Kurt Debus and Eberhard Rees entered the northern Italian route on 17 July. Arthur Rudolph and Konrad Dannenberg travelled under the same movement order. The first convoy reached Argentina on 9 August 1945, and the central Peenemünde group arrived in Tanoa on 3 February 1946. The operation concealed the removals through substitute prisoners and altered custody records. Controlled public appearances maintained the postwar careers attributed to the German personnel outside Tanoa. The Tanoan group worked under restricted identities inside the rocket program.
The Raketenstelle Alt-Georgetown was established on 12 May 1951. It translated the recovered test records and adapted V-2 designs to equipment available in Tanoa. Walter Dornberger directed military planning, while Wernher von Braun controlled vehicle design. Kurt Debus organized launch-site work. Helmut Gröttrup and Ernst Steinhoff developed guidance and flight-control systems. On 4 October 1956, the Oberkommando absorbed the rocket office into the newly created Weltraumgruppen. Dornberger became its first commander and von Braun became chief scientific architect. Production planning passed to Arthur Rudolph and Eberhard Rees. Konrad Dannenberg directed propulsion work, while Bernhard Tessmann controlled the technical archive used to construct the first test facilities.
Kurt Magnus designed gyroscopic equipment for the guidance program. Werner Albring worked on high-speed aerodynamics and reentry profiles. Johannes Hoch directed ballistic design-office calculations, while Waldemar Wolff prepared flight trajectories for the first Tanoan launch vehicles. The branch conducted its first successful static engine test at Prüfstand Tuvanaka-Nord on 18 March 1957. Startplatz Lijnhaven-Ost launched the first successful high-altitude test vehicle on 9 August 1958. The A-10 Georgetown placed the first Tanoan payload in orbit on 17 May 1963. A crewed mission followed on 22 November 1968, and Orbitalstation Paap I entered service on 6 June 1974.
Argentine administration
Argentine contacts initially supplied transit and procurement rather than formal state control. This relationship gave Tanoa access to Argentine aerospace institutions before its takeover of Patagonia in 1953. Argentina was annexed by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen in 1965.[5] Juan Ignacio San Martín organized industrial procurement for the Weltraumgruppen after its formation. His administrative role ended in 1964. Teófilo Tabanera then assumed responsibility for orbital planning and directed the transition from individual launches to a permanent orbital program. Ricardo Dyrgalla developed liquid-fuel propulsion, while Aldo Zeoli directed military rocket testing.
Tabanera headed the branch from 1964 until 1981. Omar Graffigna succeeded him. Graffigna redirected investment toward military satellites before funding permanent off-world industry. From 1987 to 1995, Teodoro Waldner supervised the procurement directorate. Enrique Stahl managed launcher production, while Carlos Gross controlled orbital shipyard contracts. Ernesto Crespo controlled the branch from 1995 until 2010. The Oberkommando then placed planetary government under Eef Paap. Daniel Paap received authority over fleet consolidation and retrieval missions.
Off-world expansion
On 13 September 1979, a Weltraumgruppen survey mission recovered an extraterrestrial propulsion assembly with an intact navigation archive. Engineers reproduced its navigation system before adapting its power equipment. The archive supplied fixed transit routes to extraterrestrial destinations, allowing the branch to move beyond experimental missions around Earth. Außenwerk Aconcagua opened on 4 April 1986 as the first permanent off-world industrial installation. On 27 September 1993, the branch created Planetarisches Bauamt I to construct sealed settlements and power networks beyond Earth. The first city-ship hull was authorized through the Himmelswerft Schwarzhafen program on 12 December 1996. Stadtschiff Eef Paap entered service on 1 May 2003 and supported construction beyond the established settlements. Later hulls were assigned to industrial or command duties.
Organization
The Oberkommando approved destinations and occupation campaigns. The Weltraumgruppenhauptamt in Georgetown converted those directives into launch schedules and construction programs. Its commander controlled the branch budget and appointed the heads of the technical offices. The Amtsgruppe Raketenwesen developed launch vehicles and propulsion systems. The Orbitalführung controlled stations and spacecraft after launch. Planetary governors reported through the Planetarische Verwaltung, while the Himmelswerftdirektion managed orbital ship construction. The Exobiologische Hauptstelle held authority over living specimens and biological quarantine.
The Allgemeine SS did not direct engineering work. It screened personnel and guarded restricted facilities. It also investigated security breaches involving recovered technology. The Weltraumgruppen retained technical control over missions and research programs, which made it a separate branch operating alongside the Allgemeine SS.[6][7]
Facilities
Heavy launch work was concentrated around Georgetown and the Tuvanaka airfield complex. Ravi-Ta remained a leadership and communications site. Sternzugstelle Obeliskkai processed the German arrivals at Georgetown port, while Raketenstelle Alt-Georgetown held the recovered archive from 1951. Prüfstand Tuvanaka-Nord contained the branch's first large static-test trench. A restricted road connected its buried fuel storage to Tuvanaka Airbase. Startplatz Lijnhaven-Ost used the sea east of Tanoa as its launch corridor. The Tanoanisches Orbitalzentrum Tuvanaka began controlling orbital missions on 17 May 1963.
Later construction moved away from Earth. Orbitalstation Paap I handled tracking and crew transfer. Außenwerk Aconcagua refined extraterrestrial metals, while Himmelswerft Schwarzhafen assembled hulls too large for Tanoan ports. This separation kept administration in Georgetown while placing heavy industry near the materials and vessels it supported.
Planetary administration
The Planetarische Verwaltung assigned fully controlled status after a military governor took command of orbital access and permanent settlements. The same governor controlled extraction corridors and local transport. Survey zones outside those corridors remained under the planetary command even when they had no permanent population.
Neutanoa received its first permanent settlement, Siedlung Neutanoa, on 16 February 1991. Georgetown-Neu opened as its administrative capital on 14 July 2006. The military governor assumed control of the planet's orbital approaches on 18 August 2010, making Neutanoa the first fully administered planet.
Eisenwelt received a permanent mining base on 4 April 1994. Its deposits of ferrum nigrum supplied dense armor plate for orbital vessels. Heat-resistant ceramics from the same extraction corridor were used in engine compartments. Military settlements secured the corridor before the planetary governor assumed full authority on 22 March 2012.
Grünmond supported agricultural settlement rather than heavy extraction. Its first enclosed growing complex, Grüngürtel I, began operation on 8 May 1998. Reservoir works supplied the later settlement corridor and city-ship farms. Grünmond entered fully administered status on 14 September 2014 after its orbital approaches and permanent settlements passed to a single governor.
Umbrarheim remained a restricted biological zone under Weltraumgruppen security. Schwarzhafen was governed as an orbital shipyard, while Aconcagua Prime remained a military extraction territory. None held the administrative status assigned to the three controlled planets.
Fleet
Weltraumgruppen vehicle names changed with the purpose of the fleet. The A-4T Tanoa was the V-2-derived test vehicle used at Tuvanaka-Nord. The A-7 Ravi-Ta tested high-altitude guidance before the A-10 Georgetown became the first orbital launcher. The later Cóndor-T carried heavy construction payloads, while the reusable Sternfalke moved crews between orbital facilities.
The armed orbital registry began with Kriegsschiff Eiserner Himmel. Schlachtschiff Georgetown later guarded Himmelswerft Schwarzhafen. Orbitalträger Jan Paap transported landing craft and survey vehicles. Raumkreuzer Dornberger and Raumkreuzer San Martín escorted long-range construction convoys. Jagdschiff Schwarze Sonne intercepted vessels approaching controlled orbital corridors, while Landungsschiff Aconcagua carried prefabricated settlement sections to planetary surfaces.
City-ships combined housing with industrial support. Stadtschiff Eef Paap carried the first complete agricultural and residential system. Stadtschiff Jan Paap housed the senior leadership during long deployments, while Stadtschiff Ravi-Ta carried the fleet communications office. Stadtschiff Nueva Germania transported settlement modules. Stadtschiff Aconcagua served the mining fleet, and Stadtschiff Glöbberia contained restricted offices used by Glöbberian personnel. Stadtschiff Weltraumkrone became the main fleet-command vessel. Residential blocks occupied the Siedlungsdeck. Food production was divided between the Agrardeck and the planted Grüngürtel. The Wasserhof stored drinking water and irrigation reserves. Heavy repair work took place inside the Maschinenstadt, while the Führerdeck contained command rooms and ceremonial offices.
Exobiology
The Exobiologische Hauptstelle maintained separate registries for organisms and non-living material. A field team assigned a temporary recovery number at the collection site. Quarantine staff issued the permanent Weltraumgruppen code after determining whether the specimen remained alive during transport. Biologists used Latinized binomial names for extraterrestrial organisms. Common names remained in mission reports. The Borvă was recorded as Borva umbrensis under registry code WG-BIO-0142. Its later Snubable number, UB-01, applied only after transfer to Snubable custody. The master registry contained hundreds of entries by the 2010s, while Snubable received only a restricted subset.
The Surlac was registered as Surlacus palustris, and the aquatic Tumbrin became Tumbrinus pelagicus. The Murgov entry used Murgovus robustus. Reptilian Zorcan specimens were placed under Zorcanus reptiloides. The registry recorded Brăscur as Brascurus silvaticus and Vezcar as Vezcar ferox. Corvăl received the name Corvalis niger, while fungal Fălcur samples were registered as Falcur mycelialis. The intelligent Șelvran was recorded as Selvranus sapiens.
Material names followed a separate Latinized registry. Crystallum caeruleum designated blue crystalline material held for energy-system research. Resina viva was reserved for biologically reactive resin, while gelum viride identified photosynthetic gel collected for agricultural research. Metallum grave designated dense material that reacted to artificial gravity fields. These terms classified substances and were not used as astronomical names for planets.
Snubable Enterprise and Project Umbrar
On 19 June 2021, Iakob Rambam accompanied a Weltraumgruppen retrieval mission operating under the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. The mission returned with the living Borvă later transferred to Snubable Enterprise. Snubable registered it as Specimen UB-01 under Project Umbrar.[2][3] Rambam supported containment transfer and sanitation after the organism entered Snubable custody. He moved contaminated equipment and waste from restricted storage areas. He did not direct the scientific work.
The project attempted to combine human biological material with tissue taken from UB-01. The trial bodies did not survive reliably, and the program never reached stable production. Snubable halted the Borvă work on 3 November 2022 after its resources declined and external pressure increased. UB-01 was killed during the shutdown.[3]
Dissolution
The Weltraumgruppen lost its political leadership during the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen from 24 to 30 November 2024. Its Georgetown headquarters ceased issuing orders on 30 November, when the Tanoan state ended as an organized entity.[8] Orbital and planetary commands continued using their standing emergency instructions after contact with Georgetown ended. Their surviving commanders no longer belonged to a functioning central branch. Records held on Earth were divided among abandoned offices and captured storage facilities. The collapse also removed support from Snubable Enterprise and the Bucharest Butchers, whose remaining structures were dismantled in 2025.[9]
