Paap family members
This page lists documented members of the Paap family, one of the five principal families associated with De Vrienden. Members are grouped by the eras with which they are mainly associated.
Early Foundation Era
The earliest documented generation used the surname Nikolopoulos and lived in the Ottoman-controlled Peloponnese. Surviving members of the household reached the Dutch Republic around 1770. The surname Paap developed after the migration.

Middenvader Era
The Middenvader Era connected the older Vader-generation branches with the households that later became active in the Vriend Era. No member is currently grouped primarily with this era.
Vriend Era
In the Vriend Era, the Paap family became one of the five principal families associated with De Vrienden. The Hugerinus lineage and Jan Paap lineage were both active. Later family members took part in events in Tanoa. Members of the family also served in the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen or joined the Fish Collective.

Naming traditions
The family used Nikolopoulos as its original Greek surname. Paap became hereditary after the household settled in the Dutch Republic.
The name Hugerinus first appeared with Aris Hugerinus Paap. The Book of Paap stated that every Hugerinus bearer must have a four-letter first name. The later Hugerinus lineage maintained this pattern.
