The Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt (TSHA) was the central security and intelligence office of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen from 1953 until 30 November 2024. It operated within the Allgemeine SS from its headquarters in Georgetown. The Geheime Staatspolizei and Sicherheitsdienst von Eef Paap reported through the TSHA, as did the Kriminalpolizei and Tanoanischsicherheitsdienst.[1][2]
Political investigations were handled by the Geheime Staatspolizei, while the Sicherheitsdienst collected intelligence for the Tanoan leadership. The Kriminalpolizei investigated offences classified as non-political. The Tanoanischsicherheitsdienst carried out protective and internal-security work.[3][4][5][6]
History
[edit | edit source]Before the TSHA was formed, intelligence work and police investigations were handled through separate security offices. The Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt was established in 1953 as these functions were brought under a central security administration. Its headquarters in Georgetown became the point through which the subordinate services reported to the Allgemeine SS.[7][8]
The TSHA introduced common procedures for investigations and intelligence reporting. Detention decisions were also recorded through the central administration, while internal monitoring reports from subordinate services were sent to Georgetown. As the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen expanded outside Tanoa, regional security offices used the same reporting chain.[2][3][4]
By the later decades of Tanoan rule, the TSHA served as the main administrative office connecting the regime's intelligence services with its political and criminal police. Regional reports were returned to Georgetown, where records from the security branches were reviewed and stored.[4][9]
Organization
[edit | edit source]The Geheime Staatspolizei handled investigations into suspected political opposition and organized resistance. Its agents conducted surveillance before arrests and questioned suspects at regional offices or interrogation centres. Detention orders could be issued through the security administration without a normal judicial hearing.[3]
The Sicherheitsdienst von Eef Paap was the principal intelligence service. It collected information inside Tanoan territory and abroad, then sent reports to its central departments in Georgetown. The service maintained personal files and conducted counterintelligence investigations. Cases requiring direct police action could be passed to enforcement agencies.[4]
The Kriminalpolizei investigated criminal offences that were not classified as political. Its work covered serious crime and offences against the regime's economic rules. Case files were connected to identification records before being transmitted through the central administration for review and archival registration.[5][9]
The Tanoanischsicherheitsdienst handled protective and internal-security work. It operated checkpoints and used screening procedures. Its monitoring work was connected to registration records and labour classifications, which could be used when examining a person's employment status or movements.[6]
Administration and authority
[edit | edit source]The TSHA required its subordinate services to use common reporting and filing procedures. Security records were connected to identification documents and residence status. Labour assignments could also be entered into the records used by the security branches. Regional offices sent their reports to Georgetown for review and archival storage.[3][9][6]
The office directed security administration across territories controlled by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It was an administrative and supervisory command. Combat formations remained outside its direct role. The subordinate services carried out investigations and surveillance, while arrests or protective work were handled by the branch responsible for the case. TSHA headquarters coordinated their reports and enforced central security directives.[2][1]
Dissolution
[edit | edit source]The Tanoanischssicherheitshauptamt remained active during the final collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen in November 2024. Fighting in Georgetown disrupted the regime's central command after the death of Eef Paap on 24 November. The remaining Tanoan command surrendered on 30 November, ending the state administration that the TSHA served.[10]
The TSHA ceased operations on 30 November 2024. Its Georgetown offices closed and the subordinate security services stopped reporting through the central headquarters. The centralized security administration was dismantled with the other institutions of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.[10][11]
