The Sicherheitspolizei was a security-focused branch of the Ordnungspolizei. It was responsible for internal security operations, intelligence-supported policing, and coordinated enforcement measures within territories controlled by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.

Establishment

The Sicherheitspolizei was formed in 1974 as internal security demands increased. Its purpose was to create a specialized unit capable of handling politically sensitive cases, organized resistance, and coordinated security operations that went beyond standard patrol duties.

From its headquarters in Georgetown, the branch supervised regional security offices and directed joint operations with other police units.

Structure

The Sicherheitspolizei operated through regional security commands placed above local police units in matters concerning state security. It exercised authority over auxiliary formations such as the Schutzmannschaft Polizei during internal security campaigns.

Personnel were selected from experienced Ordnungspolizei officers and received additional training in interrogation, surveillance coordination, and intelligence handling.

Operational scope

The Sicherheitspolizei focused on identifying and suppressing activities considered threats to state authority. This included monitoring political dissent, supervising registration systems, and coordinating large-scale search operations.

Human rights abuses

The Sicherheitspolizei was associated with systematic human rights violations. These included arbitrary detention, coercive interrogation methods, physical abuse of detainees, and participation in forced removals.

In coordinated security sweeps, the branch oversaw operations that resulted in executions and widespread mistreatment of civilians designated as security risks. Although internal regulations existed, oversight mechanisms were limited and rarely resulted in sustained disciplinary action.
