The Justizbeamte were a judicial enforcement department of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Established in 1977, the unit operated as a specialized branch within the Ordnungspolizei. Its primary role was to support the regime’s legal and court structures by enforcing judicial orders and maintaining security within judicial institutions.

Organization

The Justizbeamte functioned as uniformed court officers with policing authority. Although integrated into the Ordnungspolizei command structure, they were assigned specifically to judicial duties rather than general patrol or paramilitary operations.

Their responsibilities included the escort of detainees, security within courtrooms, supervision of trials, and the enforcement of court-issued warrants and sentences. They also coordinated with prison authorities and investigative departments when transferring individuals between facilities.

Uniform and insignia

Members of the Justizbeamte did not wear standard police uniforms. Instead, they wore civilian-style suits, typically dark in color. Despite this formal appearance, they carried service pistols in visible or concealed holsters.

Rank insignia were worn directly on their suit jackets, indicating their position within the Ordnungspolizei hierarchy. This combination of civilian attire and official rank markings reflected their dual identity as both judicial officers and police personnel.

Authority

As part of the Ordnungspolizei, the Justizbeamte possessed arrest powers and could use force when required to carry out judicial directives. Their authority extended across all territories administered by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.

They remained active until the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen on 30 November 2024.
