The Waffen SS, formally known as the Waffen SS der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen, was the main combat and field military branch of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It was responsible for military operations and armed campaigns, while the Allgemeine SS concentrated on political control, civil administration and internal security.

The main office of the Waffen SS was located in Rada Tilly, Argentina. From this office, the organization coordinated recruitment and command planning before directing large military deployments across South America and parts of Africa.

History

The Waffen SS was formed in 1949 as a paramilitary unit of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. During its early years, it reinforced regional positions and supported security operations. It also performed auxiliary combat duties outside the administrative control of the Allgemeine SS. Although the two branches had separate command systems, the Waffen SS remained limited in size and operational reach during this period.

Between 1949 and 1970, the organization established training programs and developed basic armored capabilities. Regional detachments were based primarily in Argentina. Its central office in Rada Tilly coordinated recruitment and command planning, while deployed units performed support duties and localized enforcement operations in South America.

Around 1970, the Waffen SS expanded and was reorganized into a full-scale military force. Divisions were formally established and heavy equipment was standardized. The organization also developed the logistical capacity required for long-term deployments. It subsequently became the primary external combat arm of the regime and conducted sustained operations in South America before expanding into parts of Africa.

The island of Tanoa remained primarily under the authority of the Allgemeine SS. The expanded Waffen SS instead served as the main expeditionary and conventional warfare force of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.

In 2013, political tensions increased between the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen and the United Kingdom over control of the Falkland Islands. These tensions led to the Tanoan Conquest of the Falklands, also known as the Second Falkland War, which began in 2014.

Waffen SS divisions participated in the first assault wave alongside Allgemeine SS units. Their immediate objectives were to break through British defensive positions and secure landing zones for additional forces. The Kriegsmarine supported the advance with coordinated naval artillery fire.

After the initial breakthrough, Waffen SS formations maintained territorial control and secured transport routes. They also reinforced occupied positions against British counteroperations. Tanoan forces held the western portion of the Falkland Islands until a ceasefire ended the conflict in 2017. The campaign was one of the largest external military operations conducted by the Waffen SS during the 2010s and reflected its position as the regime's main expeditionary force.

Organization

The Waffen SS operated under a centralized military command. Divisions formed its largest field formations, with regiments and battalions assigned beneath them according to operational region. Strategic planning and operational oversight were coordinated through the military structure of the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.

The branch remained separate from the administrative hierarchy of the Allgemeine SS. Security formations based in Tanoa and Fiji were primarily controlled by the Allgemeine SS, and the Waffen SS was rarely deployed on Tanoa itself. It instead maintained a strong presence in Argentina, other South American territories and selected African territories.

Uniforms and equipment

Members of the Waffen SS wore grey field uniforms during standard operations. Units operating in desert and arid environments used uniforms adapted for those conditions, particularly in parts of Africa and northern Argentina. These variants were intended to improve mobility and reduce the effects of the local climate on deployed personnel.

The organization operated armored vehicles and field artillery in support of its infantry formations. Its equipment was intended for conventional military operations. Waffen SS uniforms and insignia differed from those of the Allgemeine SS, reflecting the separate military function of the branch.

Activities

The Waffen SS conducted military campaigns in territories controlled by the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. It enforced territorial control and carried out armed suppression operations against resistance. Deployed formations secured transport routes and protected strategic facilities. The organization also supported the expansion of Tanoan control into new territories.

In Africa and South America, the Waffen SS coordinated large ground operations and maintained permanent military garrisons. Its formations also provided armed support to other branches of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen when additional combat forces were required.

Dissolution

The Waffen SS remained active until the collapse of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen on 30 November 2024. When the regime ceased to function as an organized governing authority, the central command and regional structures of the Waffen SS were dissolved.
